NIA Court sends ambush accused to jail

IMPHAL, Jun 4 : The Special Court, NIA Manipur on Saturday remanded Khamliankhup (58) to judi-cial custody till June 18 for his alleged involvement in the  deadly ambush carried out by PLA and MNPF on Novem-ber 13 last year at Sehken village near Indo-Myanmar border in Churachandpur district.
Colonel Viplav Tripathi, his wife, his minor son and four other personnel were killed in the ambush on a convoy of 46 Assam Rifles apart from inflicting injuries to six others.
Khamliankhup of Jang-nuam village, Singngat sub- division was produced before the Court by a team of NIA and they sought judicial custody for the accused while the defence counsel filed a remand objection and sought bail.
The Chief Investigating Officer of the case submitted that the NIA head- quarters, New Delhi re-registered the case under different sections of IPC and Arms Act in compliance with the Ministry of Home Affairs' order dated 26 November last year.
Reportedly, the accused was arrested by NIA and four sim cards and some cash were recovered from his possession during interrogation.
The CIO further submitted that some incriminating articles were also seized on the disclosure of the accused.
The defence counsel alleged that the accused is innocent and has been falsely implicated in the case.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the CIO  and defence counsel and on perusal of the case record, remanded the accused to judicial custody till June 18.
It may be mentioned that the son of the accused Thangkhullian is also in judicial custody in connection with the same case.
