IMPHAL, Jun 5: The Society Theatre, Manipur organised the 26th death anniversary observance of renowned playwright and Padmashree awardee GC Tongbra at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipuri Dance Academy (JNMDA) today.
The function was graced by Langpoklakpam Jayantakumar, former Health minister and working president of National People's Party as the chief guest, Kangabam Tomba, president, The Society Theatre, Manipur as the president of the function and Salam Tiken, Corporator, Sagolband AC Ward No 10 and Potsangbam (O) Premila, Corporator, Keishamthong AC Ward No 12 as the guests of honour.
Delivering his address as the chief guest, L Jayantakumar spoke about the incredible contribution of GC Tongbra in Manipur society as well as literature.
He described the late playwright as somebody with a marvellous sense of humour and a unique personality. He added that he was fortunate to be a part of the death anniversary observance.
A floral tribute was paid to the portrait of the playwright during the function. Aside from this, The Society Theatre, Manipur also presented GC Tongbra's drama "Ngabongkhao" to commemorate the event.
Other eminent personalities who attended the day's function include Aribam Shyam Sharma and Yengkhom Roma.
