'Upgrade MUC to Central university status'

The State Government should make earnest efforts and urge the authorities concerned to upgrade Manipur University of Culture (MUC) as a Central University. Six prominent student organisations of the State namely Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS), All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU),  Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) and Students' Union Of Kangleipak (SUK) made the above appeal to ensure that Manipur University of Culture becomes a premier institute to promote the unique art and culture of Manipur.
A joint statement issued by the presidents of the student bodies also stressed on the need of opening new departments in the varsity to enhance the study and research works on Manipuri culture and artforms. In the field of performing arts, sports and culture, Manipur has been holding a remarkable spot in the global platform, added the statement. The student bodies also maintained that the process of cultural syncretization of different cultures of South East Asia,   Hindu culture of the western side of the country and the indigenous culture of the State has led to the rise of new and   distinctive cultural traditions.
