Green Imphal campaign

Department of Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) conducted ‘Green Imphal City Campaign’ under the theme ‘Planting towards Greener, Cleaner Imphal’ today at Kangla Nongpok Torban.
The programme was organised as a part of 7th anniversary of Smart Cities Mission in India, ‘Saat Varsh Ka Harsh-100 Smart Cities’.
The celebration was graced by MAHUD Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh; Caretaker Mayor of Imphal Municipal Council L Lokeshwor Singh; Commissioner (MAHUD), M Joy Singh and Imphal Smart City Limited CEO Th Harikumar Singh as presidium mmebers.
Khemchand led the plantation drive which was also joined by Bhairodan Maxwell Hindi High School Headmaster L Nandakeshore Singh at the Kangla Nongpok Torban areas.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, the Minister said that the saplings were planted to commemorate the 7th anniversary of 100-Smart Cities Mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He extended gratitude to the staff and students of Bhairodan Maxwell Hindi High School and the people who took part in the campaign.
Commissioner (MAHUD) M Joy said that it was a memorable event to plant saplings along with many other to celebrate the 7th year anniversary of 100-Smart Cities Mission.
Imphal is one of the cities selected for the 100 Smart Cities Mission.
M Joy sought supports from all stake-holders including the civil organizations to achieve the target of the mission.
He said that the eastern river front road construction is only in the 1st phase and the second phase will cover upto Minuthong river site.
Speaking as functional president, Imphal Smart City Ltd CEO, Harikumar Singh said that the second phase of Kangla Nongpok Torban scheme will be started soon.
Tender process for construction for the second phase is underway, he added.
He expressed hope that the target will be achieved within the stipulated period.
The total road stretch will be around 2 km and once completed, it will be convenient for the people who are interested in cycling and walking, he added.
He further said that the road stretch from Sanjenthong to Minuthong will have two lanes and it would be motorable.
‘Green Imphal City Campaign’ will be held for seven days at different places. He also told the media that the Kangla Nongpok Torbaan will be inaugurated soon.
