Manipuri translation of 'Umrao Jan Ada' selected for Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2021

MM Ahmad has been selected for Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2021 for his translation work in Manipuri language of the novel 'Umrao Jan Ada'.
The novel was originally written in Urdu language by Mirza Muhammad Hadi Ruswa.
A total of 22 books were selected for the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2021 during a meeting of the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi held at Rabindra Bhawan, New Delhi today under the chairmanship of its president, Dr Chandrashekhar Kambar, said a press note by Sahitya Akademi.
The books were selected on the basis of recommendations made by the Selection Committees of three members each in the languages concerned in accordance with the rules and procedure laid down for the purpose.
The prize carries an amount of Rs 50,000 and a copper plaque which will be presented to the translators at a special function to be held sometime later this year, added the release.
