IMPHAL, Jun 19 : Displeased with the handling of issues pertaining to Wushu Association of Manipur and other district units of the association, founder members of the apex governing body of Wushu have drawn the attention of the State Government to keep a keen eye on the  Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Manipur.
Addressing media persons in a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, founder members of the Wushu Association of Manipur and members of different district units expressed grave concerns over mushrooming of parallel governing sport bodies and "inapt handling" by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
Considering the ugly development, the speakers also drew the attention of the Chief Minister to include and help resolve the issue in the proposed 100 days action plan in the larger interest of the Wushu athletes and enthusiasts.
A founder member of the Wushu Association of Manipur stated that the association came into existence in 1990 and after a long journey the association entered into an impasse on July 5, 2019 with some persons trying to govern the body in their own interest. Eventually the matter reached the Court, which after carefully studying the situation, instructed Registrar of Cooperative Societies to intervene and arrange for election of office bearers on July 7 the same year.
After settling the matter pending at the Court, the then Commissioner of Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Gyan Prakash had issued a notification for conduct of election of office bearers on September 18, 2019, he added.
As the election process remained stagnant, the founder members had approached the Registrar of Cooperative Societies on March 4, 2020 but the process had to be stalled due to subsequent waves of Covid pandemic, he said.
In the meantime, another issue struck the Association and the matter was brought again to the Court on October 5, 2021. But against the ruling of the High Court of Manipur and the aspiration of many stakeholders, there was an attempt to conduct election of office bearers on June 16 this year. The "controversial development" and "likely attempt" to recruit new association members shocked the founder members and other enthusiasts, he said.
He also expressed concern that the uneasy situation, if not intervened by authorities concerned, could lead to unwanted incidents.
He further highlighted stirs and confusion being faced by district associations due to mismanagement on the part of the  Registrar of Cooperative Societies including issuance of new registration number to Imphal East District Wushu Association in 2019 even as the association has got its registration number in 2016; relocation of office address of Imphal West Wushu Association from Sajirok to Singjamei Hao ground and address of Bishnupur District Wushu Association from Thounaojam to Nachou etc.
