Thoubal, Jun 15 : Locals of Heirok staged a demons-tration protesting against the delay in completing an RCC bridge being constructed at Heirok Chingdompok, here, today.
Reportedly, the RCC bridge construction work began in 2016 to connect Heirok Part-II and Heirok Part-III as the previous bridge snapped in the 2015 flood.
Speaking to media persons, YDC, Heirok Part-III Litan Wangma secretary Devbarta Sharma said that they (locals of Heirok) have repeatedly apprised the authority concerned to com- plete the project but their demand seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
Claiming that authorities concerned haven't fixed any tentative deadline to complete the project till date, he appealed to the contractor concerned to complete the bridge construction work at the earliest.
Devbarta further stated that the bridge is the lifeline of the people of Heirok, Wabaching, Thamlai, Heinoukhong, Konaitong, Paringtong, Thabi Keithel, Khoibu and Machi.
Saying that the delay in construction has been inconveniencing a large number of people, he claimed that the wooden bridge which is being installed as a diversion cannot guarantee safety.
He asserted that two people sustained injuries while crossing the wooden bridge.
Continuing that the locals of Heirok have closed the wooden bridge to prevent accidents, Devbarta urged Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Heirok AC MLA Th Radheshyam to look into the matter and address the grievances of the people.
Devbarta said that the people of Heirok will launch different modes of agitation if the contractor and officials concerned fail to give a positive response within two days.
