A 2-day vocational programme on “Basic Food Processing” for women inmates of Manipur Central Jail was organized by Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) at Manipur Central Jail on June 15 and 16.
As per a press release by MASLSA, the programme was organized as a part of the “Enhancing Effective Legal Aid and Services to Women Prisoners” campaign, implemented by MASLSA.
The aim of this campaign is to ensure effective legal aid and services to women prisoners as well as to encourage them in undertaking economic or livelihood development initiatives so as to have a sustainable income.
Ojesh Mutum, Member Secretary, MASLSA; Sorokhaibam Sadananda, Additional Member Secretary, MASLSA; Sorokhaibam Bhadrika, Superintendent of Prison, Manipur Central Jail; Sunanda Hanjabam, Managing Director, Meira Foods Global and Hanjabam Subhra Devi, Proprietor, Meira Foods attended the programme as presidium members.
The aim of the training programme is to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of food products as a sustainable self-employment venture, registration process, food safety hygiene standards to follow, FSSAI licensing, personal hygiene and sanitation, pickle making and production, costing, pricing and record keeping.
During the programme, Ojesh Mutum deliberated on the importance of economic empowerment to distance away from criminal activities and appealed to all the inmates to wholeheartedly participate in the training.
The training programme was conducted by Hanjabam Subhra Devi which was participated by a total of 40 women inmates, added the release.
