Irabot Foundation Manipur's 26th foundation day Problem of food wastage deliberated

IMPHAL, Jun 16: Vice Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University, Professor Nongmaithem Rajmuhon has emphasized the need of analysing the issue of food wastage in today's society.
He made the above statement while speaking at the 26th foundation day celebration of Irabot Foundation Manipur held at MDU Hall at Yaiskul Police Lane today.
The foundation day celebration was held under the theme 'Responsible consumption and production ( Sustainable development goal No.12)'
Maintaining that a thorough research is needed in connection with the amount of food wasted during events like public feasts, he said that it should be of major concern as there are many across the globe who are being deprived of essential meals.
Many are dying of hunger and around 20 thousand children below five years of age die on a regular basis due to hunger and poverty, he added.
He further stressed on the need of taking a healthy and proper diet inorder to stay fit physically and mentally.
He also recalled the events of Nupi Lan and Chaklam Khongchat (Hunger Marchers' Day) which erupted in Manipur in connection with food shortage
The VC also expressed that the current generation should  be considerate of the future generation and be cautious that no harm is done to the natural environment in the name of development process.
Delivering the keynote address, secretary general of Irabot Foundation Manipur, Kh Gopen Luwang informed that the foundation was established on June 16, 1996 under the supervision of Thounaojam Iboyaima who is known as the Father of Social Work. He continued that the foundation was formed with an aim to strive for a self-reliant Manipur and egalitarian society.
Ever since its inception, the foundation has taken up various campaigns for the upliftment of farmers in the State such as 'Sanghallasi Manipur', 'Grow More Food', 'Protection and preservation of Agricultural land  in Manipur', 'Know Your Scheme' etc, he added.
Expressing concern over the current lifestyle in Manipur where one is dependent on others for the daily requirements, he appealed for concerted efforts to strive for a self-reliant Manipur in the interest of the people in the State setting aside all forms of differences.
The event was also attended by prominent CSO leaders and personalities of the State.
