IMPHAL, Jun 13 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Manipur Pradesh has accused the Congress of scheming to regain its lost image by holding a series of protests against the summoning of Rahul Gandhi by the Enfor-cement Directorate (ED) at Imphal and elsewhere.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was summoned by the ED in connection with National Herald money laundering case.
Speaking to media persons at Thambal Shanglen at Nityaipat Chuthek today, BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president Ch Chidananda said that the first Prime Minister Jawaharal Nehru established a company called Associated Journals Limited (AJL) in 1938 and an English daily, National Herald was published under it.
Continuing that AJL has about 5,000 shareholders including freedom fighters, Chidananda added that the English daily stopped publication in 2008 as it only accumulated losses.
Maintaining that AJL borrowed about Rs 90 crore from the Congress, he added that another company christened Young Indian Limited which has Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi in the Board of Directors obtained real estate and assets worth around Rs 2,000 crore from AJI as the latter could not repay the debt.
The BJP, Manipur vice-president said that ED summoned both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in connection with another case taken up about nine months back.
It is truly unfortunate that the grand old party is engaging more in business activities by taking advantage of its position, he said and added that BJP wants the ED to investigate the matter thoroughly and penalise all wrongdoers accordingly.
He also said that the BJP has no problem with the Congress taking the matter to a Court if the grand old party is not happy with the the ED and its investigation.
It is also disheartening that the Congress has been attempting to depict Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the wrong light by concealing their own faults, Chidananda said and claimed that the misconduct of the Congress, however, while the party was at the helm of powers was countless.
Chidananda also compared the Congress party with a ship on the verge of sinking and claimed that whatever the grand old party is doing is a ploy to save its image.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the BJP will hold its executive meeting on June 15 and June 16 at Kangpokpi district headquarters as per the direction of Central party leaders.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Cabinet Ministers, MPs and MLAs will attend the meeting on June 16 to discuss the future activities of the party.
Other party members also took part in the press briefing.
