Arambam Samarendra remembered

IMPHAL, Jun 10 :  The 22nd Arambam Samarendra Martyrdom anniversary was observed today at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai.
During the observance, the gathering offered floral tributes to the bust of Samarendra.
Khurai Nandeibam Leikai Pradhan Yumnam Chitra Devi; Social Standard Club (SSC) vice-president Ranbala Thokchom; SSC advisor Salam Ibopishak; All Manipur Reformation and Development  Association president Thokchom Ramani, AMKIL president Lourembam Nganbi Devi and Khurai Khunphamlen Leimarol Shintha Kanglup secretary Salam Muktabali were the presidium members.
At the function, SSC advisor Salam Shamu said that Arambam Samarendra was shot dead on this very day in 2000 while taking part in a seminar on Shumang Leela.
He said that the annual anniversary has been organized in commemoration of the contributions made by Samarendra who did not hesitate to reflect his  social and political thought in his plays.
Shamu continued that Samarendra also strived to build an egalitarian society and uplift women throughout his life.
