Arambam Samarendra remembered

IMPHAL, Jun 10: A poetry reading session dedicated to Arambam Samarendra and a lecture on his life and contributions was held today at Manipur Press Club.
The programme was organised by the Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF) Manipur as a part of 22nd death anniversary observation of Arambam Samarendra.
The programme commenced by lighting lamps and offering floral tributes to the photo of Arambam Samarendra.
The poetry reading session which was attended by around 56 poets was presided by Sahitya Akademi Awardee, Saratchand Thiyam while Dr Umabati Athokpam spoke on the life and contributions of Arambam Samarendra.
Today's programme was graced by Laimayum Surjakanta Sharma, Chairman of Film Forum Manipur, Naoroibam Khamba Luwang, president of PAWF, Dr S Manaoton Singh, patron member and Gurumayum Biplab Sharma, president of Patriotic Writers Forum, Tripura branch as the presidium members.
Delivering the keynote address, secretary of PAWF Manipur, Rakesh Naorem recalled Arambam Samarendra as an eminent script writer as well as a multi-faceted personality.
He also expressed that his death was an unfortunate event  which has left an irreparable void in the State.
As a part of the death anniversary observation, floral tribute was paid at the bust erected at Nungshikol Park in Lamlai Assembly Constituency in the morning, he added.
Rakesh went on to inform that the death anniversary is observed to recall the significant contributions of the late renowned personality and to sensitize the upcoming youths about his ideals and principles.
