Imphal, May 8 : The new musical ensemble of Rhythms of Manipur "Punggee Tantha" was showcased today at the golden jubilee stage of Manipuri Jagoi Marup at Lamboikhongnangkhong.
Haobam Nisheshwor Singh is the director of the music ensemble.
Chairman of Rangiketan, Manipur Ajit Das, Rhythms of Manipur president Likmabam Manibabu Singh, and former Commissioner of Art and Culture M Lakshmikumar Singh graced the function as chief guest, president and special guest respectively.
At the occasion, Ajit Das recalled the richness of Manipuri culture and performing arts and lauded Rhythms of Manipur for its commitment to promote Manipuri culture.
The Punggee Tantha is a musical ensemble based on the beat and tunes of various songs such as holi, tribal music, folk song etc.
It may be noted that the Rhythms of Manipur established in the year 1985 has produced various musical compositions on different themes.
The Journey and Dancing Drummers of Rhythms of Manipur had won the Doordarshan National award in music category in 2009 and 2019-20 respectively.
The Rhythms of Manipur has performed in different parts of the country and beyond and is a regular performer of the Sangai Festival.
Some of its major musical compositions are Heirangkhoinida, Seigonnabi, Moirang Sai Opera, Langdei Khonjel, Tension, Drums of Manipur, Journey, Thadou Music, Loika Loikum Operetta, Leela Sanglengee Mami Opera, Hiyang Athouba, Durga and Dancing Drummers among others.
