FESOK slams van drivers
IMPHAL, May 2
Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) has come out against the practice of van drivers ferrying an excessive number of children in their vans.
In a statement, FESOK said that under the pretext of fuel price hike and introduction of new school hours, van drivers have been carrying an inordinate number of children in their vans which is beyond the seating and carrying capacity of their vehicles.
FESOK added that some students were also picked up two hours before classes commence and 2 hours after classes have concluded by their respective van drivers. This is causing a lot of ill effects to students' health, FESOK stated, and urged van drivers to halt this practice.
FESOK also appealed to the relevant school authorities to look into these practices and take up appropriate steps immediately.
FESOK further urged the Education Department to implement certain regulations in this regard to alleviate hardships faced by school children.
