Poppy cultivation banned

THOUBAL, May 27 : KL John Motah, president, Anallon Chiefs' Association, Aimol Tribe Union, Manipur along with Aimol Students Organisation, Aimol Numeiwar Organisation and chiefs of 9 villages have stated that planting of poppy is banned across Anal inhabited areas as well as Aimol inhabited regions.
KL John Motah made the statement during a press conference held at Chandel Headquarters.
KL John Motah satted that cultivation of poppy has been banned across Sulam, Green Hills, Cana, Western Valley and Chakpi and further cautioned that fines will be levied and appropriate punishments doled out to persons who act in violation of this restriction. The press briefing was also attended by HL Monohring, vice president and Warhring Khumlo, finance secretary of Anallon Chiefs' Association.
Separately, the statement from Aimol Tribe Union has prohibited poppy cultivation in the surrounding areas beyond Aimol villages. Any individual found violating this prohibition will be duly punished as per Aimol customary law, the statement added.
