IMPHAL, May 27 : Brand ambassador for the Chief Minister's Green Manipur Mission Valentina Elangbam has categorically stated that students planting at least one sapling every year and ensuring their survival will go a long way in protecting the environment.
She made the statement at the inaugural ceremony of a tree plantation drive which will be conducted in several schools and colleges in Manipur. The opening ceremony was held at Eureka Academy in Thounaojam, Kakching district.
There, Valentina said that the global mean temperature has been rising due to anthropogenic activities which also cause landslides and artificial floods among others.
"We must act fast to protect the environment from further degradation and students can play a key role in it," she said and sought support from every student in the hill and valley districts in the drive.
She said that saplings required for the drive will be provided by the Forest Department.
