Imphal, May 27 : Water Resource and Relief & Disaster Management Minister Awangbow Newmai has inspected Pump House no 2 of Loktak Lift Irrigation (LLI) site along with Engineer in Chief of Water Resources Department G Robindro Sharma and other officials.
Speaking to the media, the Minister said that the Pump House no 2 will supply water to the Imphal High Level Canal having a length of 29 kms from Tera Urak Keinou to Patsoi area then discharge to Nambul River, once restored.
The revival of the State’s major water irrigation project is one way to push the State towards self-sufficiency in food grain production, he asserted.
Loktak Lift Irrigation Project (LLIP), located in Bishnupur, has been designed to pump water from Loktak Lake at three points Pump House no.1, Pump House no 2 and Pump House no 3 discharging water through five canals to cater to a Cultural Command Area (CCA) of 23,400 Ha and an Annual Irrigation Potential (AIP) of 40000 Ha. It was commissioned in 1986.
Due to decline in the performance of the project, the ERM of LLIP was proposed for restoration of AIP of 17400 Ha (CCA 12600 Ha) in Phase-I.
Awangbow Newmai on Thursday inspected banks of various rivers in and around Imphal areas.
