Intellectual Property Right Cell of Manipur Technical University inaugurated

The Intellectual Property Right (IPR)- cell of Manipur Technical University (MTU) was officially opened today.
Today's inaugural function was graced by Science and Technology Minister, Thongam Biswajit, Education Minister, Th Basanta Kumar Singh, Vice-Chancellor MTU, Dr Bhabeswar Tongbram, Devesh Deval, IAS Member Secretary, Manipur Science & Technology Council (MASTEC) Commissioner (S&T), Mangsatabam Harekrishna, IAS Commissioner (Education) and other dignitaries, said a press release by IPR cell, MTU
Also officials and staff of MASTEC, faculties, staff and students of MTU and 16 startups beneficiaries of the MTU incubation cell sponsored by the State Planning Department participated in the function.
The IPR cell MTU has been opened with the Initiative of Patent Information Centre (PIC), MASTEC, Science & Technology Complex, Takyelpat under the supervision of Patent Facilitation Centre (PFC), Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India.
The objectives of IPR Cell – MTU includes- to work as a link and bridge between PIC, Manipur and institution/university and its affiliated colleges, to advise and guide the researchers on the basics of IPR, especially patents helped by PIC, if necessary, to arrange meetings in small groups of faculty members along with officers of PIC for identifying patentable inventions, encourage faculty members to carry out patent searches in–house and/or at PIC and to fine-tune their research, to facilitate clearance from the competent authority for filing patent applications through PIC and forward cases of their IP protection to PIC.
While speaking on the occasion, Education Minister, Th Basanta Kumar Singh motivated the students, faculties and staff of the University by citing examples of many Manipuri diaspora working in India and abroad with good research work.
Addressing the gathering, Minister of Science and Technology , Th Biswajit stressed on the importance and need for getting Geographical Indication (GI) tag of the local products.
The Minister also appreciated the Patent Information Centre, MASTEC and requested to exercise and explore more on GI Patent around Manipur.
He also handed over a token amount of Rs. 20,000/- (Rupees twenty thousand) which will be given annually for the maintenance of the Cell to Kosygin Leishangthem, the Nodal officer of IPR cell MTU.
Later a one-day workshop on IPR was also held chaired by Dr Bhabeswar Tongbram,  added the press release.
