IMPHAL, May 26: Dr Sapam Ranjita Chanu has been appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) which has been declared as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India.
She got her PhD from Physics Department, IISc Bangalore India, 2014 in experimental laser cooling and trapping of atoms and is the first female manipuri students who received such a higher degree from IISc, the best research institute in India.
She has also been accorded with the prestigious Marie Curie Individual Research Fellowship award by European Union to work at SYRTE-Observatoire de Paris, France for two years of postdoctoral research in cold atom inertial sensors development, i.e. Quantum sensors and has worked in various countries like United Kingdom, France, South Korea and Singapore before joining IIT Kanpur in May 2022.
Dr Ranjita is the daughter of Sapam Babu Meitei and S(O) Ibemhal Leima of  Khongman Kitna Panung and wife of Dr Laishram Tomba Singh (Material Scientist), Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai.
