One held with sandalwood

IMPHAL, May 26: A team of Bishnupur commando arrested an individual along with 160 Kgs of sandalwood concealed inside four boxes from near a petrol pump of Ngangkha Lawai along Tiddim Road.
Sources said that a team of Bishnupur commando detained a car (A Star) with Haryana registration number while conducting their normal duty of frisking and checking vehicles along the road as a part of their preventive measures to check transportation of banned drugs items.
While checking the said A Star car, four boxes containing sandalwood weighing 160 Kgs were recovered and the same were seized by observing necessary formalities.
Thereafter owner cum driver of the car identified as Md Hussain Ahamad Choudhury (31) s/o Haji Rahanmatuallah Choudhury of Kwakta Bazar was also arrested on spot at around 8.45 am.
The arrested person along with seized items were handed over to the concerned District Forest Officer for taking further necessary action.
