THOUBAL, May 24: A man who went missing since May 16 was found dead in Imphal River at Arong Khunjao Makha under Arong Nongmaikhong police station yesterday.
The victim has been identified as one Korimayum Abdullah of Yairipok Changamdabi Makha Leikai.
Taking strong exception to the suspicious death of Korimayum Abdullah, a public meeting was held yesterday itself at Yairipok Changamdabi Makha Leikai where a joint action committee christened JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Km Abdullah was constituted.
Later speaking to media persons, JAC convenor Md Ayub Kori raised a number of questions.
He asked as to why police did not take up any action to trace Km Abdullah even after a missing report was submitted to Lilong police station on May 18.
Alleging lapses on the part of police, he demanded a magisterial enquiry into the suspicious death of Km Abdullah and urged the Government to book all the conspirators and co-accused within 24 hours.
The JAC convenor said that a charge-sheet should be framed against all the accused within 15 days.
Notably, six persons were pulled up by police yesterday in connection with the suspicious death of Km Abdullah.
AMMOCOC president SM Jalal appealed to the Chief Minister and the authorities concerned to ensure that all the culprits involved in the alleged murder of Km Abdullah are punished according to law and justice is delivered to the victim without undue delay.
Manipur Muslim Council president Haji Arafat and MMWO working president Korimayum Boboy rued that Korimayum Abdullah could have been saved had Lilong police taken up necessary action in time.
They also assured support to all the decisions that may be adopted by the JAC.
Meanwhile, different organisations including All Manipur Muslim Development Committee, Social and Educational Welfare Association Manipur etc have condemned the alleged murder of Korimayum Abdullah.
