Luwangli Maril desilted

BISHNUPUR, May 22
Nine local clubs of Leimapokpam came together to carry out desilting of Luwangli Maril today.
It may be noted that due to recent torrential rains, Luwangli Maril had become largely blocked and the cleaning initiative taken up by the nine clubs was an effort to rectify the situation to alleviate flood related problems.
Blockage along Luwangli Maril, which flows from Kakyai Langpok till Sanapat Hidangkhong had led to widespread flooding in the Leimapokpam area.
Speaking from the sideline of the desilting effort,  P Biken, vice president, Leimapokpam Social Development Society said that in the past Luwangli Maril used to be 20/30 feet in width but it has narrowed and even completely disappeared in many areas. This narrowing has led to a lot of flooding, he said.
 The day's effort was carried out to solve this problem he stated.
