Nishikant advocates comprehensive education

IMPHAL, May 20: Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam has appealed to all teachers to adopt a comprehensive approach in educating children and impart broader knowledge about life instead of focusing only on academic learning.
The MLA was speaking at the inaugural function of Bal Vidya Mandir’s Teachers’ Training Centre at Palace Compound here today.
The inaugural function was organised by the Vidya Bharati Shiksha Vikash Samiti.
As students are the future pillars of the Nation, the future of a Nation lies in the hands of teachers for they are responsible for moulding and grooming students, Nishikant said.
He expressed keen desire for teachers to correct students’ mistakes promptly.
Weekly tests and correction of students’ mistakes on weekly or daily basis can go a long way in easing difficulties faced by students in learning and correcting themselves. Such a system would also be quite helpful in ensuring continuous and comprehensive evaluation of the performances of each and every student, Nishikant said.
The objective of enabling students learn without putting undue burden was elucidated in the Yashpal Committee’s report ‘Learning Without Burden’, he pointed out.
Notably, the Yashpal Committee was formed at the behest of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Many people in the State see education as only academic learning but this notion is completely misplaced, he continued.
Teachers need to adopt a comprehensive approach while teaching students in schools. Students must be taught discipline and imparted broader knowledge  about life so that they can groom and guide themselves in their future endeavours, Nishikant said. There is no end to seeking knowledge and the human brain is capable of storing infinite knowledge. Knowledge and wisdom are two fundamental tools through which mankind can explore for solutions to all kinds of problems, the MLA said.
Expressing keen desire for incorporation of ‘Manipuri sanskar’ and ‘Bharatiya sanskar’ in the education system, Nishikant wished that each and every student of Bal Vidya Mandir may grow up to be responsible and resourceful citizens so that they can take the society to greater heights.
Akhil Bhartiya Prabhari Upekshit Kshetra Shiksha Shiv Prasad said that the Vidya Bharati Shiksha Vikash has been shouldering a big responsibility in the State’s education sector since 1979.
Shiksha Vikash Samiti Manipur president Y Khogen and Education (S) Director L Nandakumar too  attended the inaugural function.
