Bail plea rejected

IMPHAL, May 18 : The Judicial Magistrate Imphal East on Wednesday rejected the bail application filed by 37 years old Md Azmal Shah alias Amusana who was arrested on the charge of sexually assaulting a married woman and sent him to judicial custody till June 1.
A large number of people protested in front of Lamphel Court complex today demanding justice for the alleged rape victim when accused Md Azmal Shah, s/o (L) Md Abdul Kadir Shah of Khabeisoi Karong Thong was produced before the Court.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that the victim of the case lodged a complaint to Imphal East women police station on May 14 last.
As per the complainant, the victim was forcefully taken by the accused to his relative's place at Kairang on May 4 and raped multiple times.
Claiming that the accused also smashed the phone of the 'victim' when she tried to call her sister, the complainant further claimed that she was taken to other places too by the accused and his friends and relatives.
"The accused even warned of dire consequences when the woman pleaded for mercy and to take her home,' it said and further claimed that the victim was taken to Nagamapal on May 8 and forced to sign by the accused and some of his associates.
Saying that the victim wasn't aware of the content of the paper which states that she voluntarily eloped with the accused and none of her family members should interfere, the complainant maintained the video went viral on social media and hence a case was registered for investigation.
Md Azmal Shah was arrested on May 14 and one car along with an RC book and two mobile phones were seized from his possession.
It is reported that the accused has admitted to the charge levelled against him during interrogation and had even eloped with two women on a single day in the past.
The Court after hearing the APP and defence counsel and on perusal of the case record rejected the bail application and remanded the accused to judicial custody till June 1.
