IMPHAL, May 18 : Manipur bagged 5 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze medals to claim overall team title at the 32nd National Sub-Junior Canoe Sprint Championship organised under the aegis of Kayaking and Canoeing Federation of India in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh from May 17.
In the championship held at Lower Lake in Bhopal, the State Sub-junior women's team amassed 4 gold and 2 bronze medals to emerge team champions as the men's team won 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals to become team runners up.
In the women's championship, Khwairakpam Dhanamanjuri won four gold medals, one each in the 500 m K-1 event, 200 m K-1 event, 500 K-4 event with Thongam Luxmi, Kongjengbam Tanuja and Konsam Yaiphatonbi and 200 m K-4 event with the same teammates.
In the meantime, the lone gold medal for the sub-junior men's team was bagged by the team of Kongjengbam Wangthoi, Phairenbam Yaip-haba, Mairenbam Nicholas and Khwairakpam Santosh in the K-4 event.
The silver medal was on the other hand fetched by Moirangthem Javed and Naorem Naresh pair in the 500 m C-2 event.
Naorem Naresh Singh also won a bronze medal in the 500 m C-1 event as 500 m K-4 team of Konjengbam Wangthoi, Phairenbam Yaip-haba, Mairenbam Nicholas and Khwairakpam Santosh settled for another bronze medal. Moirangthem Javed also won Manipur a bronze medal in the 200 m C-1 event while Konsam Yaiphatombi and Konjengbam Tanuja won 200 m K-2 event bronze.
In the 200 m C-2 event for women, the pair of Salam Dolina Devi and Roshini Philem won another bronze medal.
The State team were led by Khwairakpam Indira and Sunil as coach and manager respectively.
