Convicted under POCSO Act

IMPHAL, May 12 : The Special Judge of Fast Track Court number II convicted 35 years old Shamurailatpam Tomba Sharma under Section 6 of POCSO Act on the charge of sexually assaulting a minor on January 11, 2019 and fixed May 13 for sentence hearing to announce the quantum of punishment.
Convict Shamurailatpam Tomba Sharma (35), s/o Ibotombi of Yairipok Top Maibam Leikai was sent to judicial custody at Manipur Central Jail soon after the judgment order was announced.
The judgment order was announced after the trial of the case which was transferred from Special Court POCSO Imphal East by an order of the High Court of Manipur.
During the trial, numbers of prosecution witnesses were produced to prove the charges levelled against the convict and the same was examined by the Court.
The Court after hearing the Special PP and defence counsel convicted Shamurailatpam Tomba under Section 6 of POCSO Act for committing penetrative sexual assault.
The case was taken up after the mother of the victim lodged a complaint, claiming that her minor daughter was sexually assaulted by the convict on January 11, 2019 at around 3.30 pm.
The convict allegedly fled after the incident and he surrendered himself before the police on January 29, 2019.
