DESAM locks SCERT office
IMPHAL, May 11 : Incensed over the non appointment of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Director, volunteers of Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) locked the office and entrance gate of the Council this afternoon.
According to DESAM, the post of Director for SCERT has been lying vacant for over a year now.
Reportedly, a number of DESAM volunteers went to the office complex of Directorate of SCERT and asked all its employees to get out from their respective places before sealing the office rooms.
Speaking to media persons, DESAM general secretary M Somorjit stated that they resolved to close the SCERT office as the State Government has not filled the vacant post despite repeated appeals.
He also said that the DESAM has talked about the issue with the State Government on numerous occasions but no tangible actions have been taken till today.
The office will remain shut until a Director is appointed for SCERT, Somorjit said and continued that DESAM will launch more intense agitation if the State Government opens the office.
