IBSD celebrates foundation day

IMPHAL, Apr 29 : The 21st  foundation day of the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal was held today at the conference hall of the institute at Takyelpat.
Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal Vice Chancellor Dr Anupam Mishra, Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi Scientist Dr Anamika, NIT, Durgapur Professor Sudip Chattopadhyay, SAC, IBSD, Imphal Director Dr Arun Bandyopadhyay and Manipur University Professor Dr Lisam Shanjukumar graced the function as the chief guest and presidium members.
In his speech, SAC, IBSD, Imphal Director Dr Arun Bandyopadhyay said that the institute has been earnestly working towards restoring and preserving the bioresources of Manipur and the entire North East region.
He continued that the research centres of IBSD at Gangtok, Aizawl and Shillong have been emphasizing on converting bioresources into bioeconomy to bring socio-economic development in the North East Region.
Bandyopadhyay added that exploration of the bioresources available in the North East Region and other Himalayan Region is an important target for the IBSD and its collaborative institutes.
Maintaining that phyto-pharmaceutical is one of the research vertices of IBSD, the Director went on to state that the institute has been working on evaluation and validation of traditional medicines, specially medicinal plants.
He said that developing products, processes and technologies to utilize bioresources for the betterment of society and bioeconomy is the ultimate aim of the institute. While informing that “making local relevance and global importance” is a slogan of IBSD,  the Director added that the institute has signed MoUs with more than 20 National institutions for promoting the aspects of bioresource management. A National seminar on Bioeconomy from Bioresources with special reference to NER was also held as a part of the foundation day.
