IMPHAL, Apr 28
All Manipur Nupi Marup staged a protest against the increase in prices of fuel and essential commodities today at Keishampat Lairembi Community Hall, Imphal.
As per a statement, the protest was attended by Maisnam (O) Sakhi, president AMNM, L Sumatibala, secretary AMNM, S Sorojini former president and various district leaders of the organisation including Y Roma Devi who contested in the State Assembly election, 2022 from Kakching AC.
Speaking from the sideline of the protest, Maisnam (O) Sakhi said that the petrol price hike has caused immeasurable hardships to the people of India, especially to the mothers. For this reason, the organisation is protesting for a decrease in the prices of fuels and essential items, she added. She alleged that hiking the price of fuels, or otherwise, is in the hands of the administration and added that the price hike is due to the increase in taxation of petroleum products. Further, she urged the CSOs across the state to join them in their protest.
L Sumatibala said that the government cannot go on implementing price hikes and holding world events and issues culpable for it. She stated that the government first blamed the price hike on Covid-19 and then on the Russia-Ukraine war.
Lastly,  S Sorojini stated that all essential commodities required for our daily lives are transported with the help of fuels. As such the price hike of fuels is leading to a price hike of essential items.
Following this, the gathering took out a rally with slogans stating their demands. It is worth noting that around 500 women belonging to various area committees of AMNM from different constituencies participated in the protest.
