Forest fire
JIRIBAM, Apr 25 : Joint efforts by Jiribam Fire Service and Jiribam Forest Division controlled a forest fire that occurred at areas adjoining NH-37 near Phaitol village in Tamenglong district today at around 4.30 pm.
The joint team fought the fire for more than 2 hours before it was brought under control.
Speaking to the media, N Biraj Singh, Range Forest Officer Jiribam , said it is not clear what caused the fire, but it is suspected to be a case of arson.
He added that such fires greatly affect the environment and the numerous species of flora and fauna and anyone involved in lighting fire can be punished under the Indian Forest Act, 1972.
