Sexual assault case

IMPHAL, Apr 26: The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today committed a case of alleged kidnapping and rape to the Session Judge, Imphal west for trial against a 50 year old accused Lourembam Ibungo.
The accused Lourembam Ibungo 50 s/o Dhana of Charanpat Maning Satjal Lampak who is presently on bail in connection with the case had appeared before the Court and expressed his desire to engage legal aid counsel to defend his case.
As some sections of the IPC including kidnapping/ abduction and wrongful confinement are exclusively triable by the Court of Session Judge, the CJM committed the case to the Session Court, Imphal West
The Court also directed the accused to appear before the Court on May 12 for necessary proceeding.
A case was filed against the accused after the victim woman lodged a complaint that on June 5, 2017 she was taken from Patsoi area for purported elopement but the accused took the victim to his elder sister’s house, instead of his own home.
On reaching there, the victim came to know that the accused was not a bachelor, contrary to his claims but a three time divorcee.
The complainant also mentioned that she didn’t want to be the 4th wife of the accused and pleaded that she be set free.
However the accused kept the victim in confinement and sexually assaulted her several times against the will of the victim.
The victim was rescued by a police team on June 7, 2017.
