Save the indigenes call marks Meekap Thokpa Numit

IMPHAL, Apr 17 : The All Manipur Students' Union  (AMSU) observed the 42nd Realisation Day (Meekap Thokpa Numit) at Pishum Chingamacha, today.
During the observance, the gathering offered floral tributes to the two students - Potshangbam Lukhoi and  Huidrom Loken-who died in an "anti foreigners movement" of AMSU and AMSCOC on April 17, 1980.
It may be mentioned that the two students were killed in police firing during the "Go Back Foreigner" movement of April 17, 1980.
Reportedly, the observance was held in a low key manner due to the ongoing BoSEM Class X and CoHSEM Class XII examinations in the presence of different CSO volunteers.
At the event, AMSU president Haobijam Chalamba Meitei stated that the survival of indigenous people of Manipur will be put at greater stake once the State is included in the railway map of India.
He also claimed that the Inner Line Permit System being implemented in Manipur is blunt and has no provisions to regulate the entry of non locals effectively.
Saying that all people should be vigilant  and work collectively to protect the land and identity of Manipur,  Chalamba maintained that the non locals continue to enter the State illegally due to the  insincerity on the part of the Government.
Further stating that Manipur might face the same fate as that of Assam and Tripura where the survival of indigenous people and culture of the two States are in doubt, the AMSU president sought support and cooperation from all stakeholders to regulate the entry of non locals into the State.
