Remand for accused

IMPHAL, Apr 16 : The Special Judge POCSO Imphal East today remanded a 22 year old man from Sagolmang to seven days police custody on the charge of sexually assaulting a minor girl on April 4, 2021.
Accused Thangjam Malemnganba, s/o Kameshor of Tiger Camp Sagolmang surrendered before the police yesterday evening.
He was produced before the Court by a team of women police station Imphal East along with a prayer for seven days police remand.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that the elder sister of the victim lodged a complaint to the women police station Imphal East.
As per the complainant, the minor victim was sexually assaulted by the accused on April 4 last year at Panchayat's toilet near Tiger Camp community hall at Sagolmang by taking advantage of the innocence of the victim.
Saying that the accused and his parents were at large to escape arrest, the IO maintained the father and mother of the police were arrested by the police on December 11 but were later released on bail.
The parents of the accused also failed to give appropriate reason for absconding, the IO said and added that the accused surrendered before the police only yesterday and admitted the charges levelled against him.
The Court on perusal of case record and after hearing the submission of the IO remanded the accused to seven days police custody remand till April 22.
