Rare soft shell tortoise rescued

THOUBAL, Apr 13: A rare soft shell tortoise weighing about 8 Kg was handed over to Manipur Zoo on Wednesday by staff of Kakching Range.
The tortoise was found while excavating a pond of one Naorem Kunjo of Kakching Sumak Leikai.
The injured tortoise was given necessary medical care at Kakching Veterinary Hospital before handing it over to Manipur Zoo.
N Munal Meitei, ACF Chandel stated that the population of soft shell tortoises has been declining rapidly in the state.
N Munal further appealed to the public to preserve them and hand over the strays to the Forest Department like Naorem Kunjo.
