Cease work strike

IMPHAL, Apr 11: Mid Day Meal Workers' Union Manipur has resolved to cease their work if the honorarium for mid day meal workers for the last 19 months is not paid.
Y Indrani, president of Mid Day Meal Workers' Union Manipur, said this at a press conference held today and added that the mid-day meal workers are paid a minimal amount of Rs 1000 per month which is also paid just for 10 months in a year while the incentives for teachers and other schemes workers are paid in full for the entire year.
She told the media that the union had approached the concerned authority regarding the non-payment of honorarium for the last 19 months but the concerned authority said the department is ready to give honorarium for 2 months. She added that the union cannot accept this.
As the scheme is a Centrally sponsored scheme, there are reports that the Central share has already been released but the State is yet to release their honorarium, she added.
