Governor La Ganesan distri-buted the 14th Manipur State Film Awards 2022 to dis-tinguished film personalities of the State.
The award ceremony was held today at the auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Palace Compound, Imphal.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said the awards are given to encourage people working in the State's film industry. He said filmmakers should make films which would show the diverse and rich culture of Manipur.
This would not only help in saving the culture of the State but also help in spreading awareness to other people living outside the State. The unsung heroes of Manipur can be made known to the world through this strong media, he said.
Translation of literary works is not an easy task as the literary values in the original works need to be present in the translated version too, he added.
RK Meghen also appealed everyone to start working towards maintaining the integrity of Manipur.
"To achieve that, we need to ensure that the Manipuri language is kept alive by teaching properly to the younger generations", Sanayaima asserted.
He also advocated the need to take advantage of the digital world and make Manipur literary works available in e-books.
Speaking at the event, Sarat Salam, founder of Loyalam Public Library said he lost his parents very early and faced lots of problems including lack of books. He said that the public library was founded in order to ensure that the problems he faced are not faced by the local youths.
He also expressed gratitude to all the people who donated books to the library.
The inaugural programme was also attended by Thounaojam Khomdon, Librarian, Manipur University of Culture; Yengkhom Indira, former vice-president of Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Thoubal district branch; Kshetri Bira, president, Sahitya Seva Samiti, Kakching; Thiyam (Ongbi) Silleima Leima, president Kangleipak Loina-Sillon Apunba Marup and Robin Blackie, National Board Member, MSME as presidium members.
La Ganesan further said that cinema is a very powerful weapon to reach the masses. The reach of messages through cinema is very strong and the access is also easy. Many ideas and views when said through movies are easily accepted by the people. Movies which highlight social issues reach the masses easily and the whole issue attracts more support.
Congratulating the awardees, the Governor urged them to make more films which will be remembered by all.
Lauding the efforts put to organize the Manipur State Film Awards distribution ceremony by MSFDS, he complimented their sincere works to promote arts and culture in the State.
Organizing such events will be a morale booster for everyone in the film industry of the State, he said.
The Governor also expressed confidence that the efforts of the MSFDS will help in elevating the standard of cinema and also in encouraging the young artists and technicians of Manipur.
The Governor handed over the Lifetime Achievement Award to renowned filmmaker Laimayum Banka Sharma in recognition of his contribution to Manipuri Cinema. Various Film Awards of different categories were also distributed in the ceremony.
Water Resources Minister Awangbou Newmai while presiding over the ceremony said Manipuri cinema has been improving considerably. More efforts should be put into developing the quality of the films so that it can compete at the international level, he added.
