Thoubal, Mar 4 : Village chief of Khunbi Tueisan in Tengnoupal was allegedly abducted from his house and left at the neighbouring village after serious thrashing, yesterday.
The injured village chief has been identified as Charanga Yaima (52), s/o (L) Ch Modar.
According to credible sources, the village chief was forcibly taken out from his house by a group of people suspected to be supporters of a political party who came in two vehicles (Maruti Gypsy) for ‘a talk’ at around 10 pm.
Shortly after the abduction, locals of Khunbi Tueisan  searched for the village chief and headed towards a cattle shed in the neighbouring Khunbi Tuinem on hearing the sound of a man being thrashed.
Saying that the village chief was admitted to a hospital in Kakching after rescuing him from the cattle shed, the sources continued that the village chief sustained serious injuries on his head and other body parts.
He has been shifted to Sangai Hospital on RIMS road.
To protest the incident, a large number of women came out and blocked the road stretches that lead to Khunbi Tueisan.
Speaking to media persons, one of the protesters urged  the perpetrators to clarify the motive behind the offence and cautioned that they will ban the second phase of polling at 42/10 Polling Station in Tengnoupal AC.
She also urged the authority concerned to book all the culprits at the earliest.
At the demonstration, the protesters used placards reading "Punish the perpetrators," and "We condemn the assault" among others.
It is reported that certain NPF supporters in Tengnoupal AC pelted stones at some houses of INC supporters at Khuninglung village too.
