THOUBAL, Mar 29 : A combined team of CDO Thoubal and 16 Assam Rifles apprehended a 23 year old man along with 34 soap cases containing brown sugar worth approximately Rs 1.5 crore during a frisking and checking operation conducted along National Highway-39 at Yairipok Lamkhai yesterday night around 8 pm.
The combined team was led by Additional SP (Ops), Thoubal, O Wangkhomba and Deputy SP of Thoubal CDO, Laishram Santosh under the supervision of SP Thoubal Jogeshchandra Haobijam, IPS.
The man has been identified as Gimmuanlian Zou (23), s/o Nengkhanthang Zou from Lhangnem Village in Churachandpur district. He was heading back from Moreh in an Eco Van bearing the registration number TN09-CH 7596.
Gimmuanlian Zou was produced before media persons at Thoubal District Headquarter today following which a press briefing was conducted at the SP's Office.
Speaking to media persons, SP Jogeshchandra stated that the silver Eco Van was stopped at the check post for a routine check.
Upon checking the vehicle, 34 soap cases weighing approximately 441 grams each containing brown sugar were recovered.
The SP added that the apprehended individual alongwith the recovered drugs and vehicle have been handed over to Thoubal Police Station for further investigation.
The press briefing was attended by Additional SP (Ops) Thoubal, O Wangkhomba, Deputy SP of Thoubal CDO, Laishram Santosh, Major Ashem Rahul Singh of 16 AR and OC Sadananda, Thoubal CDO.
