Handloom expo kicks off

IMPHAL, Mar 28
A 14 day State Handloom Expo was inaugurated today at the hall of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Cachar organised by the Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisan CS Ltd.
The expo has been organised under the marketing event of the National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP) of the office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textile, Government of India.
Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, L Harilal Singh, Assistant Director, Handloom and Textile Department, Government of Cachar expressed that handloom exhibitions provide marketing opportunities to the weavers to promote and sell their products.
Therefore handloom expos should be organised on a regular basis to uplift the weavers, he added.
The inaugural function was also graced by S Bhubol, vice-president of Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisan CS Ltd, S Kamalakanta Singha, president of the Manipuri Benevolent Society, Silchar, Y Satyendra Singha, member of the Manipuri Development Council, Govt of Assam and A Biren Singh, former minister as the presidium members.
