IMPHAL, Mar 28 : The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) have condemned the manner in which TOM TV has been shut-down by some people claiming to be investors of its parent company Lamjingba Finance at 1.40 pm today.
According to A Mobi, Chief Editor TOM TV, this was not the first time that so called investors have targeted TOM TV including holding its staff hostage for 4-5 hours.
He added that the office of TOM TV is located adjacent to Lamjingba Finance office and the so called investors entered the PCR room of the TV news station and forcibly shut down the news organisation.
The Editor also said they had already written to the Superintendent of Police, Imphal West to provide security to the office of TOM TV following a similar attack earlier, but so far no arrangement has been made by the police.
AMWJU and EGM shared the trauma the employees of TOM TV went through and condemned the incident as a challenge to the 'freedom of expression' and demanded appropriate action against those involved, said a statement jointly issued by AMWJU and EGM.
The statement added that any issue anyone has with the parent company should not be used as an excuse to target a functioning media house and appealed all the concerned to not forcibly close any media houses.
AMWJU and EGM also appealed the Govt to provide adequate security to enable normal functioning of TOM TV.
