IMPHAL, Mar 27: Theatre Centre Manipur observed World Theatre Day at Manipur Press Club today.
The programme was attended by Ngangom Uttam, director, Social Welfare Department; Konjengbam Dilip Singh, Social reformer ; Akham Joykumar Singh, Chairman, BOSEM; and Khoisanm Ranabir Singh, Secretary, Theatre Centre Manipur as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Ngangom Uttam said theatre and leela play an important role in developing a society as they impart important knowledge to people through entertainment.
Konjengbam Dilip Life Time Achievement award was also presented to Sarungbam Biren, Theatre Director at the programme.
Sarungbam Biren also spoke on the theme 'Theatre and a Culture of Peace'.
World Theatre Day was also observed at Manipur Dramatic Union in Yaiskul Police Lane organised by Theatre Arts and Literature Afflux.
The programme was attended by Budha Chingtham, playright and eminent critic; Ningthoujam Munish Singh, regional director, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, NE Region; Meghachandra Kongbam, chairman Banian Repertory Theatre as presidium members.
As a part of the observation, a performance based on poems 'Song of War Caged Bird' was also shown.
The first Salam Ibemcha, Salam Irabot memorial award was presented to Budha Chingtham by Dr Salam Shantibala, managing trustee Palem Panthou Cultural Trust. The award includes a cash prize, a citation and a shawl.
A two day seminar on Indo-Bangla International Seminar was also inaugurated by Professor Nahakpam Aruna, Dean, School of Humanities, Manipur University.
Banian Repertory Theatre also observed the day at BRT complex attended by its chairman K Meghachandra, senior artist Ksh Rameshwor and BRT director Ksh Phajaton Chanu as presidium members.
