Student bodies, AMMIK reconcile

IMPHAL, Mar 27: Regarding a certain untoward incident which took place yesterday, six students bodies namely; AMSU, MSF, DESAM, SUK, KSA and AIMS and the Apunba Manipuri Matam Ishei Kanglup (AMMIK) have come to an understanding.
Speaking to media persons at a joint press meet held at SUK office, Wangkhei this evening, AMMIK general secretary Mayengbam Dhananjoy said that the two sides held a meeting last night and came to an understanding.
The incident which took place yesterday was quite unfortunate but AMMIK and the six students have reconciled, Dhananjoy said.
Speaking on behalf of the six student bodies, Ningthoujam Dhanakumar Meitei said that they respect all the artists of the State and would never harm their (artists) interests.
As announced earlier that no festivities and celebrations should be organised until the board exams of Class X and Class XII are over, the six student bodies would stick to the same resolution, Dhanakumar said.
He warned that organisers should be held accountable for any untoward incident in the event of organising any festivities.
As for organising festivals and celebrations inside auditoriums and halls which is also permitted by the Government, the six student bodies have nothing to say, he said.
He also asked all concerned not to seek permission for organising musical events, Thabal Chongba and Shumang Leela from the six student bodies.
He reiterated that all the people who organised Thabal Chongba and other festivities on and after March 24 should come forward for talks with the student bodies.
Dhanakumar, nonetheless, said that the six student bodies would not impose any restriction on rituals and festivities related with Cheiraoba festival.
All Manipur Sound Services Association (AMSSA) president Naorem Opendro said that AMSSA would work in line with the agreement reached between AMMIK and the six student bodies.
