BISHNUPUR, Mar 26: EO Nambol Municipal Council under the supervision of District Administration Bishnupur on Saturday organised a cleanliness drive at India Peace Memorial in Maibam.
Staff of Nambol Municipality and other volunteers carried out the drive in and around the historical site and spread awareness to the public.
The participants also appealed to the public to extend their cooperation and support in preserving the memorial which was built on the site of the "Battle of Red Hill".
Moreover, the Environment Protection Committee Kumbi under the supervision of Kumbi AC MLA S Premchandra also organised a cleanliness drive on Friday to clean up 7 Km of Kumbi Khuga river starting from Kumbi Uyunghoubi Mini Dam.
Speaking on the occasion, L Manglemba, president, Environment Protection Committee stated that the drive will be carried out until all types of organic and inorganic garbage are removed from the river.
Kh Luxman, vice president BJP Bishnupur District Committee urged the people residing in the periphery of the river to avoid dumping their garbage in the river.
He also stated that measures will be taken up to conserve Khuga river after consulting with the MLA including awareness programmes to benefit the local people.
Kh Luxman further expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the people of Kumbi, Ithai and Wapokpi for their voluntary participation in the clean up effort of the Kumbi Khuga river.
