IMPHAL, Mar 23: Maram Battalion of Jwalamukhi sector, Assam Rifles under IGAR (E) seized 1 kg of Crystal Methamphetamine approximately worth Rs 3.7 crore on March 20.
According to Assam Rifles, troops of Maram Battalion set-up a mobile check-post along NH-2 based on specific input about the presence of drug smugglers along the highway.
During the operation, a truck was stopped at around midnight. The truck driver was identified as Sidd-heshwar Ray who was transporting scrap cartons fully loaded in the truck to Guwahati. During a thorough search of the truck, the troops found one sack full of opium.
The troops had doubts about the driver and the search continued for 30 more minutes when they found a bluetooth speaker having some suspected polythene screwed in the speaker itself. The suspected drugs and the speaker were confiscated and NCB, Imphal was informed immediately.
The NCB confirmed the seized drugs as 1 kg of Crystal Methamphetamine, which is stated to be an expensive drug from which the tablets like World is Yours and other tablets are made. The team also seized 17 Kg of opium.
The recovered items have been handed over to NCB, Imphal and the accused was produced in front of a Magistrate on March 21.
Meanwhile, Kakching district commando also arrested two drug peddlers including a woman along with 1058 grams of heroin powder and 30,000 WY tablets from Kakching Lamkhai on March 21.
Speaking to media, Kakching SP Shrey Vats said a team of Kakching police commando led by Md Abash Khan, OC Commando, conducted frisking and checking at Heikakpokpi as a part of the campaign to prevent movement of anti-social element and transportation of illegal items.
During the operation, a Mahindra Bolero (black in color) coming from Pallel side was given signal to stop for checking but the vehicle sped away without stopping. However, the vehicle was finally stopped at Kakching Lamkhai by the police.
During spot verification, two persons who were travelling in the vehicle were identified as Thangminlun Mate (24), s/o Doungam Mate of Moreh Chikim Village and M Hoineithing Haokip (38), w/o M Jangminlen Haokip of Moreh Ward No VIII, Ngamkai Veng.
During a thorough search of the vehicle, it was found that the fuel tank of the vehicle was modified and partitioned. The police called a mechanic and the tank was found containing 55 soap cases which contained suspected heroin wrapped in a transparent polythene and three bundles containing WY tablets wrapped in brown coloured polythene, he told the media.
The SP further added that the seized contrabands were worth Rs 51.16 lakh in the domestic market and Rs 5.1 crore in the international market.
The arrested persons along with the seized articles have been handed over to Kakching police station for further necessary action.
Meanwhile, a team of Bishnupur commandos arrested one 20 years old man along with 20 packets of WY tablets this afternoon from Pholjang Bazar.
The arrested person has been identified as Haominthang Haokip (20), s/o Thangboi Haokip of Songdo village, Churachandpur.
He has been handed over to Moirang police station along with the seized WY tablets which weigh around 421 gram.
