State observes Shaheed Diwas

Imphal, Mar 23 (DIPR)
The State observed Shaheed Diwas today at Maharaja Chandrakirti Auditorium, Pa-lace Compound in the pre- sence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The observation was jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and De- partment of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur.
At the event, N Biren Singh stressed on the need to study and research the history of Manipur thoroughly.
Saying that the Government would make a provision to provide financial assistance to writers and researchers who want to compile good books on Manipuri history, N Biren maintained that "knowing our history would help in instilling a sense of brotherhood among different communities of the State".
He continued that Sha-heed Diwas is observed in honour of  those freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country.
He stated that the Ministry of Art and Culture under the supervision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been putting in efforts to identify the unsung heroes of the country and honour them during the year long celebration to mark the 75 years of India’s independence.
He also assured that the State Government would always work for development of Manipur and would never betray the trust of the people.
As a part of the observation, N Biren Singh and other dignitaries paid floral tributes to the portraits of freedom fighters of the State.
A play on Rani Gaidinliu by Prospective Repertory Theatre, Manipur and screening of AKAM Film and short movie clip ‘Digital Jyot’ were the main highlights of the observation.
Newly sworn-in Ministers Thongam Biswajit, Yumnam Khemchand, Govindas Konthoujam, Nemcha Kipgen,  Awangbow Newmai, Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, Director General of Police P Doungel and others attended the function.
March 23 is observed as Shaheed Diwas every year to mark the death anniversary of Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar.
