Assam Rifles, the oldest paramilitary force, is celebrating its 187th Raising Day from March 24 to 26, 2022.
To mark the occasion, a wreath laying ceremony was organised at Assam Rifles War Memorial at Shillong, wherein the Union Minister of State (Home), Nityanand Rai; Lt Gen P C Nair, AVSM, YSM, DG Assam Rifles and other senior officers paid homage to the bravehearts of Assam Rifles who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, said a statement of IGAR(S).
The Union Minister, in a special Sainik Sammelan complimented the Assam Rifles for their outstanding contribution in fighting insurgency in the North East & Kashmir.
Appreciating the Assam Rifles for their selfless service to the nation, he also expressed his gratitude to the bravehearts of the Force who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Minister recalled the supreme sacrifices made by Col Viplav Tripathi and four bravehearts in an encounter with insurgents in November 2021.
During the event, the Minister also felicitated Veer Naris, planted a sapling and interacted with all the ranks, families and ex-servicemen.
Moreover, on the occasion of 187th Raising Day, Churachandpur Battalion and Loktak Battalion under the aegis of IGAR(S) conducted an interaction and felicitation event for Assam Rifles Ex Servicemen and Veer Naris at Simte Community Hall, Churachandpur and Battalion Headquarters, Kangvai, Bishnupur district on March 24.
Somsai Battalion under the aegis of IGAR (S) also organised an Ex-servicemen Meet at Somsai Garrison to celebrate Raising Day.
Likewise to mark the 187th Raising Day, Tengnoupal Battalion and 165 Inf Battalion TA under the aegis of IGAR (S) constructed and handed over a waiting shed at Lokchao village in Tengnoupal district; Phundrei Battalion extended humanitarian aid to Mission Blind School in Chandel District; Jwalamukhi Battalion, Assam Rifles of Headquarter 22 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR(East) organised an Ex-Servicemen Meet cum Cancer Awareness camp at Lairouching.
