IMPHAL, Mar 17: Given the pattern of how elections are fought and won in Manipur, contesting polls without spending any money is in itself a huge victory, asserted Thounaojam Brinda who contested the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election from Yaiskul AC.
Speaking to media persons at her Yaiskul Janmasthan residence today, Brinda claimed that she was the first person in the history of Manipur who contested State Assembly election without incurring any expenditure.
Conveying gratitude to all the people who supported her, the former MPS officer said that she is highly indebted to all the people who supported her with cash, kind, time and energy in the interest of the State.
“I lost the election but this is only a temporary retreat. I would certainly fulfil my election promises to deliver people’s rights, shares and opportunities and a council of our own would be formed,” Brinda said.
The council would look into the needs of those people who require Government assistance the most so that they can live with dignity, she said.
Congratulating all the candidates who were victorious in the just concluded State Assembly election, Brinda said that it is almost impossible for anyone to work for people’s welfare without assistance from the Government.
Saying that the elected Member from Yaiskul AC is a representative of all the people of the Assembly segment irrespective of whether they voted in his favour or other candidates, Brinda appealed to the MLA to help them bring good governance in the State.
“We cannot stop our activities. We will continue our works. Manipur has not yet fallen. We will work to ensure that Manipur always stands high”, Brinda said.
She then appealed to all her supporters to support her in her future endeavours.
She called upon all her supporters to work collectively and tirelessly, and show to the world what they can do and how far their promises are fulfilled.
