AMMSO calls general strike

IMPHAL, Mar 14 : The All Manipur Muslim Students Organisation (AMMSO) has called a Statewide general strike from the intervening night of March 14 and March 15 if the 11 people arrested by Porompat police are not released by 11 pm today.
AMMSO president Kh Ayub Shah said this in a press release and added that a team of Imphal East police led by SP M Pradip Singh had arrested the 11 people from the residence of MLA-elect Sheikh Noorul Hassan while he was away for the oath taking ceremony today.
When AMMSO approached the SP, he did not give any reason for the arrest and also declined AMMSO's request for their release, added the statement.
Kh Ayub Shah alleged that SP M Pradip also neglected directives from the DGP to release the 11 arrested individuals. AMMSO considers such act as an act of discrimination against a minority community, added the statement.
The proposed general strike will be relaxed for essential services, health services, religious activities, added the statement.
