Independent candidate of Jiribam arrested, Court grants bail

JIRIBAM, Feb 8: Abujam Umapada Luwang, independent candidate from Jiribam AC in the upcoming election, was arrested by a team of Jiribam police led by additional SP Ak Sadananda today. He was later released on bail.
Abujam Umapada, who is from Sorok Atingbi Hilghat, was arrested by the police who were waiting for him near helipda in Harinagar today at around 11 am but the reason for his arrest is yet not know.
The police produced Abujam Umapada before the Civil Judge Junior Division/Judicial Magistrate First Class Court today and the Court granted bail to him on payment of security bond.
As per the report from the police, Abujam Umapada was arrested as per a reference forwarded by Kolkata Court, Metropolitan Magistrate.
Speaking to media after walking out from the Court, Abujam Umapada said his arrest might be part of a conspiracy by people who are against his candidacy from Jiribam AC. He also clarified that there is indeed a case filed by him at Kolkata Court against Kolkata Bank, but it should not have led to his arrest.
It is noteworthy to remember that Abujam Umapada Luwang was eyeing BJP ticket for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election but had decided to contest as an independent candidate after having failing to secure the BJP ticket.
