Court nods to NIA

IMPHAL, Feb 8 : The Special Court NIA Manipur has approved an application submitted by NIA to file documentary evidence against Saikul MLA Yamthong Haokip, KRA chief David Hangsing and UKLF chairman Lhunkhoson Haokip in connection with arms missing case from 2nd Manipur Rifles kote.
During the hearing, the Special PP submitted that the NIA filed the first charge sheet against eight persons on 25 September 2018 during the investigation of the case.
Saying that the NIA submitted first supplementary charges sheet on January 25, 2019 against four other persons including Yamthong Haokip, David Hangsing and Lhunkhoson Haokip while the second supplementary charge sheet was submitted on December 17 2019, the Special PP stated that documents correspondence letter to FSL, Kahilipara Assam and CFSL Chandigarh, original examination report of CFSL, arrest memo and personal search memo are required to be submitted before the Court.
Defence counsel of Yamthong Haokip objected to the prayer of NIA, arguing that the documentary evidence and the witnesses's statements collected and recorded after submitting the charge sheet is to be submitted as supplementary chargesheet in the prescribed form as provided under Section 173 CrPC.
The defence counsel then prayed to reject the NIA prayer.
Defence counsel of David Hangsing also objected to the prayer of NIA.
The Court after hearing both parties observed that accepting the list of additional witnesses and documents proposed to be submitted by NIA will not be prejudicial to any of the accused and took record of the additional witnesses, documents etc.
